Why Be Organized?

Morning everyone and how are you on this chilly Monday morning? Oh my goodness, I just realized I have not blogged since last Tuesday (on this one anyway) and that is one reason I should be more organized!! If I was sticking to an editorial calendar, these things would not happen.

Last week was super busy with my writing though. I entered several pieces in various places, hoping to earn/win some money…wish me luck! I took a test for Compose.ly to try to find more paid work, I submitted a poem to Winning Writers for their Wergle Flomp Contest (I wrote about entering contests over on my website), and I entered the Barefoot Writer’s Essay Contest who’s theme this month spoke to what we are grateful for.

My new red hat before adornment

It wasn’t all work though, I also went to to the movies with my new lady’s group and saw Murder on the Orient Express. This time we went as the over 40/50 group, but next time we get together it will be as ladies of The Red Hat Society! Yes! I became its newest member last week! Dave and I went shopping for me a new red hat and I’m happy to say we found one! It was at a new store in the mall called Dana, it is a nice felt hat like one we found at a different store which cost $50, mine was under $20! Now all that’s left to do is decorate it up, add some purple flair and I’ll be good to go! I spent some time creating a board on Pinterest called “Red hat ideas” if anyone wants to see it. (visit my other boards while you’re there 🙂 )

I went and had my lab work for tomorrow’s appt. with my kidney dr.

Today I’m supposed to go have my pre-op for my surgery, but I’m going to call and make sure it’s not too early. My surgery is on the 30th and in the old days, one of the tests they’ll be running, a PT/PTT was only good for three days. In addition, I want to make sure they can’t go ahead and use the results from some of the lab work I already took. Why pay twice? (I probably won’t get away with that)

I also did a job for Crowd Content Saturday morning because I tried to do it Friday night, had computer issues and lost the whole thing! Now, I may be making small change, but I had already done a ton of research, so when it was still available Saturday morning, I jumped on it! I spent way too long on it, but it’s done yea!

Well, I’m off to see what else I can get done, it will be another busy week since we are hosting Thanksgiving. Writing, reading, crocheting (I started a new scarf), cleaning and cooking…just like everyone else I’m sure! Y’all have a wonderful day and I hope to see you later on the patio! 🙂

Rhyme, Rhythm, and My Love of Hard Rock Music

So I’m supposed to create a post using the daily prompt you say? How about I talk about rhyme, rhythm, and my love for hard rock music that has been a part of my life since I was about twelve years old.

Actually, I’ve been singing since before I could talk, alone, in a group, with friends…it doesn’t matter, just give me a few notes, some words that rhyme and a heavy, hard rock beat and I have all the ingredients I need to fulfill my soul and make me one happy girl.

Who are some bands and groups that provide good rhymes in my genre of music you might ask? My real love affair started with groups like Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin and simply got stronger and harder over the years. Now my tastes are fed by groups such as Korn (no pun intended), Theory of a Deadman, Breaking Benjamin and so much more that I would be here all day trying to name them.

What is my favorite place to hear such music? Well, mainly in my car, on a satellite station called Octane, one of the Sirius/XM channels, and now there is a new one that takes me a few years back but provides me with that hard, driving beat I love so much and groups that actually SING instead of SCREAM the music called Turbo. They play more of a sustained, rhythmic kind of rock featuring groups like Puddle of Mud, Alice in Chains and Foo Fighters who play music that not only rhymes but provides the kind of beat you might actually be able to dance to.

Check out one of my favorite bands singing This Probably Won’t End Well:

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! That’s all for today’s prompt, let me get back to my Crowd Content jobs and my Udemy class with Nick Usborne, an Aussie who really knows how to teach copywriting skills and make it fun and interesting. Have a great day everyone!

Watering, Weeding and Writing-How I Spent My Morning

Good morning everyone and how are you doing today?

Well, I started my morning literally “in the weeds” but that’s not a bad thing. I spent 30 minutes watering and weeding while it was relatively cool before the sun was up, and only made a little progress before I was sweating like a hog and slightly nauseous. See, I’m having a bit of trouble with my right eye (my contact eye) so I decided to see if I could wear my glasses for a day. Sadly that will be a no go if I’m to feel nauseated all day. Maybe little breaks without my contact will help but I realize that I just need to go see my eye doctor and get this straightened out.

My overgrown bed
A slight bit of progress

The turtles are not my thing, they were gifted to me from the previous homeowners (along with many, many other things). So, after a bit of hoeing around, lol, I came inside to the cool air and a nice cup of coffee.

I’m also happy to report that after signing on with Crowd Content, I have completed my first assignment for a client and am now waiting for an approval from the editor. I’m nervous because there are lots of rules you have to follow and certain infractions cause you to get strikes and so on, but I will learn how to work with clients and editors this way. What it is, is a place to get paid (albeit a tiny wage in the beginning) per word for your writing by doing small jobs for different clients. They may need product descriptions, blog posts, posts for their social media, etc. As you prove yourself and have successful jobs with no strikes, your pay increases per word. There is even the opportunity for bonuses! My first assignment was just a 20-60 word pd (product description) and yet I’m sure I did something wrong. We will see, I will keep you posted. Eventually, if I get the hang of this and move on to bigger projects, I can start writing those white papers that I took that other course for. That is a real juicy project with a real earning potential. In one way I feel I’m going backwards as long as I have been writing and now I apply for a job making pennies, yet at the same time,  I’m glad I waited until I learned to write daily, and quickly because all that will help me do many assignments per day eventually. The more you do the faster you climb the ladder and make more money.

Would any of you, as bloggers, be interested in how to make money this way? (I’m not getting anything in return for your interest, just trying to help I promise) If so, just check out Crowd Content by clicking the link and read the writer’s guide, rules and regulations. Give it a go and let me know how you get on! Have a great Thursday everyone and I’ll catch you later, on the patio.
